Kid-Friendly Hikes
Ancient Cottonwood Trail
This flat, shady loop is perfect for toddlers and young children. The Ancient Cottonwood Interpretive Trail winds through a grove of the world’s oldest-known black cottonwood trees—some over 400 years old. Kids will love the many spots to stop and toss rocks in the creek along the way.
Fairy Creek Falls
A short, scenic hike to a beautiful waterfall, Fairy Creek Falls is part of the Mt Proctor Trail and accessible year-round. The gentle trail is great for little legs and offers plenty of opportunities to explore nature at their own pace.

Located near the Aquatic Centre, Fernie’s dirt jump park welcomes all skill levels—even kids on strider bikes! It’s a safe and exciting spot for young riders to practise balance, confidence, and their first jumps.
Skate Park
Right next to the splash park and aquatic centre, the Fernie Skate Park is a popular hangout for older kids and teens. Bring scooters, skateboards, or just a sense of adventure and let them roll!
Water Fun: Splash Park & Aquatic Centre
Fernie Aquatic Centre
A favourite for families, the Aquatic Centre has a great pool setup for little ones, with warm water, shallow areas, and plenty of space to splash around. The bigger kids will love the waterslides.
Fernie Splash Park
Cool off under the summer sun at the nearby splash park. It’s located next to the Aquatic Centre and features fun water features, a skate park, and a grassy area ideal for picnics or playing tag.

Rotary Park
Centrally located and perfect for small children, Rotary Park has play structures, wide-open green spaces, picnic tables, and a gazebo. It’s a great spot to unwind or burn off some energy.
Parkland Terrace Playground
This quiet, shaded park is a hidden gem with swings, climbing features, and a kid-sized zipline.
Annex Park
Close to downtown, this riverside park features a duck pond and a trail along the Elk River. Kids will love tossing rocks into the water (parental supervision is recommended, as the river flows quickly in spring and early summer). Look for little trails down to the rock beds along the riverbank.
